Shakespeare Street Pipework Upgrade, Mackay

Shakespeare Street Pipework Upgrade, Mackay

Mackay Regional Council sought a qualified contractor with the necessary skills and experience to deliver the installation of new drainage infrastructure to the Shakespeare Street sub catchment extents.  Existing council stormwater plans meant all water was to flow overland which created issues with ponding throughout the storm water catchment.  The new underground pipework upgrade system has improved flood immunity in the area and is an integral component of the overall East Mackay drainage plan.

The project had a number of challenges predominantly related to the deep excavation in sandy conditions below the water table level.  Dewatering was conducted to combat the water, and shoring boxes were used whilst trenching and installing pipework and pits.  Confined space work was conducted by our trained personnel.

Traffic Management particularly when working through intersections was challenging and required close management to maintain safe working areas for project personnel as well as suitable management of local traffic.

Due to the location of the project, maintaining access to residential properties and businesses was a concern to Council.  Seaforth Civil was involved in the community liaison process and maintained open communication throughout the works with residents to minimise the impact to them.
